RAAF A4-4 Avro Anson Memorial | History and Track Clearing.

Last Week I was asked by Anthony who is a part of the Avro Anson Track Clearing team if I was interested in helping a couple of others to help clear and check the memorial after recent winds bought down a tree close to the memorial.

The location is where 4 young men lost there lives in a plane crash during training for the war in 1940. Anthony shared the history of the site and what was involved in clearing the site by a dedicated team of volunteers over several years after the walking track was almost non existent.

We cleared 27 trees on the way to and around the site. I shot a short video from the day. Please watch it to see a part of Australian History and if you have time make the effort to visit the memorial.

    Cheers
    Rich

Job well done Rich. Stuff like this will be lost if not for small local groups volunteering time & effort to keep sites like this open for all.

Exactly Beavan, I had read about the memorial but never been there. I had been close to it several times. The team dedicated to clearing the track through have done a fantastic job over several years in maintaining the area. The track was pretty much gone until these guys done there magic.

Thanks for making the time to post the video. Stuff like this can be easily forgotten about it. It is also makes you appreciate the effort of the people that have been involved to maintain the site over the years to ensure it doesn't get forgotten about.

Very fascinating to read about the history of the site over the years.

    Rich,

As a 40 year (now retired RAAFie) I congratulate you on your effort to help preserve a little of our (sometimes tragic) history.

    Well done
