    Home Made Tyre Bead Breaker

    Hi All
I had recently purchased a second set of wheels for the 120 series Prado.
Four of these came fitted with Fair conditioned Bridgestone Duelers, the D697 type same as are currently on the wagon.
These rims will get a bit of a clean up, then have BFG Km2 Muddies mounted on to them.
So the plan was to remove the Duelers so the process can begin.
Well I'am going to need a bead breaker.
A quick rummage through the scrap metal collection had a few items at hand and an idea in mind.
    Turned out something like this.
First position the toe close to the rim allowing the angle of the foot to slide under the bead of the rim as downward pressure is applied to the handle.
One press shifted most of the bead on all of the wheels face sides.
Flipping the wheel over to break the back side bead, takes a few more bights by rotating the wheel.

Then a bit of love with the tyre levers and a mallet sees the rim and tyre separated.

    Cheers
    Troy

Give me a fulcrum and a long enough lever and I can shift the world

A bit of tyre lever practice never goes astray for the day you need to do it in the bush.

Why would I buy something for $10 when I can make it for $20

Sure got some leverage, recon I could nearly get the rear wheels off the deck if the bead doesn't yeild..
Best thing was it all come together with material from the scrap stockpile.

Could put a jockey wheel on it to help with the weight I guess mate, but no.
I know a clever joker that has designed an attachment for the factory jack.
I've seen it demonstrated and its very effective and a more compact unit for touring.
