That's a good and difficult question Rob.

On the face of it the Explorer app for half the price does everything the 4wd app does and then lots more. Here is what Hema says is the difference http://kb.hemamaps.com/article/AA-00...orer-apps.html

In reality though I think that the 4wd app is just simpler and easier to use, probably because it does so much less. If you are into computers and apps and like mucking around and importing and uploading and generally being a computer geek, then the Explorer app would likely suit you best. If however you are a dinosaur like me and a technophobe that needs a Bex and a good lie down after every session on the computer, then I think the 4wd app is for you. It's just simpler but has less features, it tells you where you are, you can see where you are going and it can track where you have been and not much more.

I wonder how many reading this are young enough to not know what a Bex is

    Cheers Andrew
Why would I buy something for $10 when I can make it for $20

The explorer app is the one for uploading track logs. I don't really ever use the explorer app but before my last post here I opened it up and I would say they have the same maps, I didn't check every single map though. The difference being on the 4wd app I can decide which map to look at, on the Explorer app, it looks like the app decides on which map depending how much you zoom in or out.

Maybe that is why I don't like it, I am not having any stinking app telling me which map to look at
