    I've almost joined the gang!

I do feel a bit like a copy cat. Ah well.

My current swag is almost 20 years young. It has been with me on a 6 week Outback trip, many trips in the high country, fishing, trips.. It has been blasted with the hot sun and soaked (occasionally) with rain. It has also survived being driven oven by me, which was rather embarrassing. It is also super comfy and has great ventilation.

So why am I changing? Innovation! My current swag is kinda rectangular. It is no good in the rain as water pools at the bottom and eventually soaks through. I would think that the dome shaped swags will be better in the rain, as the rain should bounce, drip off. Time will tell.

The Crashpad does look the goods. Let's hope I can get 20 years out of this one. Then it will be time to join the caravan gang.

There are some good swag out there. I will write up my thoughts after a few trips.

Harps noticed you have joined the gang in the latest YouTube video mate so come on what are your thoughts? How do you rate it from the old coffin mate?

Good question. The crash pad has some positives, however my old style "coffin" swag has some benefits too.

    Negatives:
    The setup time takes longer
    Packs up size is massive
It is much harder to get into. I think this is more of an issue with dome swags than Crash Pad in particular. It is a real pain as you need to get very low and unzip a large section to get in and out. My older swag would open at the top and you would step in and out. This is so much better.
The zips to get in and out are a little tight and seem to get caught up

    Neutral:
Mattress is ok. I would prefer a little more foam or firmer. I may change the mattress in the future. Not a major issue. I will see how it goes. I could feel objects a little under the swag (despite clearing out first).

    Positives:
Good internal size, length, wide and the dome height.
    Quality seems great
Looks like it can take a battering from rain. Great overlap of the outer flaps
The dome shape provides good internal shape, weather protection, etc. Pros and Cons. All in all, I like the shape (apart from getting in and out).
    Fair and reasonable price
Good size bag to pack the swag into
Seems to be warm and thus should be good in winter. You can also open the ends (and sides) to get air flow

Overall, happy with the change. I am still getting used to it.

I have passed down my swag to a mate's son. Hopefully he will get good use out of it just like I did.

Good review mate drop mats are a must with these type of swags as for the mattress I wonder if they have changed I noticed Jack forest green one had a different mattress to the stealth and our double had the thicker mattress again maybe some egg shell will help
