Today a cheap mod was added to the rear of GU. I usually use a magnetic light above the door table when camping to assist with seeing whats going on when I'm using the fold down table. Today that changed when I fitted up a length LED strip lighting across the top edge of the door and down the side. This mod only cost $10 as the lights were given to me!

I headed down to local Auto Store and picked up a ciggie conection with a 1.8m coiled lead. It was $7.95. A 10 amp rating I knew this would be up to the task. I had planned on using a plug connection but this was useless as the terminals it came with were flimsy.

Just checking all the connections everything was going to plan.

Fitting was very straight forward. The 3M tape isnt the best. I think because I have had this light sitting around for over 12 months that it might have weathered a bit and lost some of it's strength.

A close up shot of the lights.

    Another view.

I took these shots without the tripod tonight, so there not the best quality!

The light output is very impressive, it will come in very handy.

The way I have set it up will be temporary. The plan is to hard wire the light in with a on/off switch so that it will be more user friendly.

    Cheers

Love that idea Rich. You'll have no shortage of light now at the back of your Patrol. Great mod mate.

Looks good Rich, these strip led lights are so versatile, so many great places they can go. Since doing my awning I've been thinking of other places to stick these things and I am thinking the tailgate on the cruiser will probably be next after seeing this.

Dave I think after the awning my next move might be forward facing lights on the front of the cargo barrier.

    I'm glad I could help

Hey Dave I was looking at mine today after helping out Rich and I was thinking along the inside of the rear roof near the tail gate hinge. That way you dont have to run the wires to the tailgate and it would simplify hard wiring.

Looks good Rich, tucked out of the way but good effective light by the look of it.
