    Smokey2.8's GU Patrol

    Hi all,
As you all might know by now I own and love driving my '98 GU Patrol powered by the RD28TDi
I purchased the GU from a close friend with most of the mods and accessors fitted.
    Long list but a run down;
ARB winch bar with warn winch
2 inch OME suspension incl sport shockies
    Full length roof rack ARB
    Long range sub tank
    Rear draws and barrier
CB and Telstra phone connection (antenna)
33 inch tyres (S/T) for now KM1's for sale
    Plus plus
Have had a one real issue but half my fault for thinking she'll be right - balancer bolt come loose and did some destroying on end of crankshaft. Long horrible story - don't ask :-(

    Cheers

Nice one Smokey, A bloke across the road used to have one that could have been the twin of your GU! It was also a 2.8. I like that colour on the GU.

Thanks. Looked great until I owned it and took it bush and gave it bush pin stripping!

    Cheers

Your signature says it all!!! Never underestimate the mighty 2.8!

If yours is anything like mine, they get a little short of breath when fully loaded or towing, but get them in the bush in low range and they can keep up with the best of them.

Thanks for the pics and info on your mighty 2.8. I know about your balancer problem, and it is always in the back of my mind and something I am paranoid about.

Looks like a set of sliders may be needed soon to replace that bent up passenger side step?

Yes Gary the side step happened early on in ownership, was still learning how to pilot it.
The mighty 2.8 could do with a set of reduction gears to help 'keep it on the boil' while doing slow low range work like rocks etc.
After completing 'Jurassic Park' - Mt Airly she performed brilliantly but a little slower going up would have helped.

Some nice big rocks there Smokey. Not many rocks down my way. The patrol sounds like it would be all good here, flat out up the clay hills. No need for those reduction gears

Great looking 2.8 there Smokey, I must admit I almost bought a 2.8TD instead of the 4.5 80 series when I was in the market but struggled to find one that wasn't flogged out, actually it was no different with the 80 as well, just happened to find a good 80 first.

Yeah, I neally purchased a 80 before the 4wd bug bit as well. Should have got it, but didn't - just took longer to realize my mistake.
Understand about finding a good one, not easy but I found a loved one.
