If you are close to your weight limits or exceeding them it is a worthwhile investment. The lift that the GVM upgrade gave us was probably about 3" all round.

Now you've given us something to think about Dave. She is pretty hefty so we should probably look at getting that done too and it will mean we don't have to compromise too much. Who should we talk to about this work? I'm guessing a specialist suspension business?

There are a few places that do GVM Upgrades. It is worth weighing your vehicle, working out what else gets added to it for your bigger trips including towball download weights then shopping around to find an upgrade that meets your needs.

I spoke to a guy in Sydney who added a few hundred Kg for about $6K, a guy ion canberra who added nearly a tonne extra but charged about $12K but ended up using Statewide 4x4 in Melbourne and that was a bit under $3K. Paul used a Lovells kit for suspension, did the diff laminating in house himself and also installed tower braces. The engineering certificates include the rims I use which are a different offset to standard Patrol rims but my tyres are the max size legally that can go on a Patrol so they didn't need to be included. As part of the engineering certification took out the rear seats so it is now a 5 seater Patrol not 7. ll up we gained 435Kg which was enough for what we needed.

I GVM upgraded my 200 series for under $2000 inc the suspension. Engineer report included and the rego papers reflect the upgraded weight.

West cost suspensions sold the suspension kit and its already been tested and approved for a gvm upgrade. They are in Perth Im pretty sure.
I then got an engineer in newie to inspect that it was the suspension and it wasfitted properly. Showed him the reciepts of purchase and after a $450 fee wrote the report that i took to the RMS.
